Once
upon a time, there lived a young lady named
Nana. She is very poor. The one and only precious thing she had
is angklung. Her father gave it to her before he passed away. She still had a mother that
offer her to study in Indonesia.
One day Nana brought her precious angklung in school.”What
is that?”,
said her friend. “Is it a food?”.“No it’s
not, it’s a music instrument. Listen...” Nana answered and played the angklung.
After that someone came. ”Hey, you!”, said someone who had a bad habit face. “Yes? what is it?”, Nana answered. “Why do you play
angklung on this modern era? That’s very lame, you know. Play modern things like bass, guitar, drum or others cool things then just
simply stop playing the wierd instrument! ”,said that boy. After school, Nana run to
her house and cried on her bed. She
decided
not to go to school again
because she is too ashamed. In that bad
situation, at least, Nana still had a friends to cheer her up.
After
the bad day, on the way while Nana
wanted to go to a grocery, “Aaaaah!” she fell into a pit
because she didn’t
focus on the road. “Need a help, young
lady?“, a stranger asked and
lend her a hand to be grabbed.
“Y-Yes, thankyou”, answered Nana
and grabbed the stranger’s
hand. The stranger was a man who crossed the same road with
Nana. “Woah…
I know you, girl.
You have an angklung, right?”,
the man asked Nana. Before Nana
answered the questions, the man continued to say. ”Ooh
I’m glad someone had an interest in that
music instrument! I’m
actually a chief of puppet
group. You can call me Yudi nice to meet you!”. “Wow,
that’s so cool”, said Nana. “Oh, have you ever tried playing
this? Or you just collect angklung?”, the man asked. “Yes sir, I love
playing it so much ! im not that kind of people who just collect something.”, Nana
answered. “Oh! Why don’t you join my puppet
group? You can come to my house. Here...
it’s my address” the man gave Nana
a name card and leave.
On the next day, Nana and her mother came to Yudi’s house and knock the
door. After that someone opened the door. “Oh, you. Welcome. The
others are waiting for you!” The man
who opened the door was Yudi. There Nana practiced a lot using his angklung with
others. After that, she was confident enough and
decided to try to go to school again.
“Oh,
Nana. Where have you been?”,
asked the teacher. Nana said, “I’m sorry ma’am. I.... “ She stoped because
she was too ashamed. Gladly,
the teacher noticed and instantly changed
the topic.“Oh hey! did you know that there will be a contest in this school?”, ask the teacher again. ”No, I don’t. What contest?”, Nana asked. “Its a music contest. I
think you should really give a shot to that contest. There will be a piano
performance, bass, guitar... Oh, It’ll
be awesome!”, said the teacher.
After
the end of school, Nana asked her
friends, to help her to perform on the stage.
They rushed
into Nana’s house and prepared everything.
“It’s time to show”, said Nana to her
friends before the contest began. When Nana and her friends
went on the stage, all of sudden
there was a sound called. ”Ahahaha! Why are you
bringing that thing to school? I can’t
believe you bring that weird thing
to school again”. The
girl started to mock Nana
again for bringing such instrument on stage. “It’s okay, everything is
gonna be alright. Dont
worry”, said Nana to her friend.
Not
even a single mocking words got into her minds. She was thinking, “If I go down, It’ll ruin my plan to make
people respect our culture and make me regret my life.” There was nothing to make Nana gave up. Nana and her
friend started to perform. When they played it,
everyone got silent. The sounds was so beautifull and it was enough to make
people relized that angklung was not like what they think all this time.
Finally, everybody gives standing ovation.
The contest ended. Nana was approached by a woman.
“Hello,
young lady. You did very nice there. Your name is Nana, right?”, a woman asked. Then Nana answered, “Thank you very much. And, yes, my name is Nana. Is
there anything I can help?”. “I’m
a show agent from Europe, You can call me Angelina.
Actually, I need something interesting to be shown at my show. Your performance
was really good. It’ll
be a honor to have you on my show. It’ll
be interesting to have something different on Europe, won’t it?”, asked Angelina. “Ah, it’s an honor for me to
bring my culture overseas. With my peasure, I’ll do it”, Nana answered. It was her best day
ever.
10 years later, she became the famous
angklung player in the world. What can we learn from this story is everyone
, everything , have a different values. So do not feel that something is
completely useless. Is the thing that you have been underestimate in this whole
time will not be like what you think? No one knows
